Child seats: the rules in France and Switzerland

A transfer from Geneva Airport crosses the border. The two countries do not have quite the same rule for child seats.

Published on

In France: up to 10 years old

The French Highway Code requires an approved restraint system, suited to the child’s height and weight, for every child under 10.

In Switzerland: up to 12 years old or 150 cm

In Switzerland, a child under 12 who is shorter than 150 cm must be seated in a suitable restraint system.

Which seat for which age

Seats are chosen according to the child’s height (i-Size standard) or weight (older standard). The usual guidelines:

  • Rear-facing baby seat: from birth to about 15 months.
  • Child seat with harness: up to about 4 years.
  • High-back booster: until the requirement ends, at 10 years old in France.

For a transfer

In the quote request, give the number of seats and, in the message, the age and if possible the weight of each child. The seats are fitted before you arrive at the airport: you do not need to travel with your own.
